Kensington Garden Apartment

This project saw Lomax & Chi undertake a full refurbishment of a light-filled garden apartment in Kensington, transforming a damp and poorly configured property into a bright and welcoming home. Located within a conservation area, the renovation required a carefully considered approach to both the internal layout and the building's external appearance, balancing contemporary interventions with the character of the existing property.

The apartment required a complete overhaul to address longstanding issues and unlock its full potential. By relocating the main structural wall, we were able to create a significantly larger kitchen and a new entrance hall, separated by a large glazed screen that allows natural light to flow throughout the space. The kitchen windows were enlarged and carefully aligned to maximise daylight, while existing bedroom sash windows were replaced with elegant French doors, strengthening the connection between the interior and the garden.

Lomax & Chi oversaw all aspects of the design process, including architectural design, planning applications and conservation area approvals required to alter the building's external features. Every intervention was carefully considered to enhance both the functionality and character of the home while respecting the architectural significance of the property.

Our client had a very clear vision for how she wanted her home to look and feel, and the design evolved through a close collaborative process. Wide-plank Douglas fir flooring runs throughout the apartment, creating warmth and continuity between spaces, while a bespoke handmade oak kitchen forms the heart of the home. A carefully curated palette of natural materials, texture and craftsmanship creates an interior that feels calm, timeless and deeply personal.

The result is a beautifully reconfigured Kensington apartment that maximises natural light, improves flow and functionality, and provides a sophisticated yet relaxed setting for modern living.
